First contact
To book the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you need to contact us by phone or email. You may also consult us in person at our center. During the first contact, we assess whether your diagnosis is treatable in the chamber, what health documentation is needed for the initial screening, and we will set the time line for your treatment.
All patients for whom the HBO therapy is suggested, undergo medical consultation and thorough examination with a physician of the hyperbaric chamber, prior to their first entry into the hyperbaric chamber. Medical practitioner will then recommend the number of exposures according to the patient’s health conditions. After that you will be able to schedule suitable appointments with our staff at the OXYMED center’s reception desk.
For the medical examination before HBO, we recommend that patients bring with them:
- Internist examination for adults over 70 years of age, including ECG
- For children paediatric examination
- The latest medical diagnosis and treatment finding
- ENT examination including Tympanography taking into account future exposure in the hyperbaric chamber (ENT examination may be done in our center, for a fee)
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is part of a complex and continuous treatment process. It is not a therapeutically isolated treatment from other healing methods. It is a method where a patient in the pressure chamber breathes pure medical oxygen under a pressure greater than 1 bar, i.e. in the range of 0.2-0.3 MPa during 60 to 120 minutes.
Exposure process
Before each exposure, every patient undergoes an in-patient check-up by a medical practitioner at our hyperbaric center. During the exposure, patients breath pure medical oxygen, at elevated 2.2 ATA pressure, using a face mask or a certified helmet. Exposure takes 75 minutes. The entire course of therapy is under the constant control of medical staff (physicians and nurses) and certified hyperbaric chamber operators who attend and monitor the safety of patients. They are ready to respond to their needs at any time or to intervene in case of unexpected circumstances. Therapy is painless and non-invasive.
For maximum comfort of our patients, there are comfortable chairs located in the room. The Oxymed Center’s modern chamber allows you to watch movies on special screens or listen to music, while seated.
Safety Precautions
For safety reasons, you need to use 100% cotton clothing during the therapy, which is provided free of charge. A cloakroom with lockable cabinets for personal belongings is also part of the center. Before you enter the chamber, please remove all makeup, do not apply creams and ointments, perfumes or hairspray. If you have an open wound, cover it with a sterile dressing. In case you are not sure about the suitability of any of your items, please contact our staff who is happy to assist you. We ask you for your acknowledgement and compliance with our regulation on safety precautions since your safety is our priority. Please find the list of prohibited items HERE.
